Living Our Lives with Good Intentionts: the manifesto on how to improve the world

We as people, as a living being, contain a great power, the power to control our fates, elude our destinies, and fulfill our dreams. It is a common belief that our past present and futures all align in a linear for. It may be one that twists and winds but none the less it remains a line. Often people talk about the crossroads that they encounter in their life time, those rare defining moments when someone has the opportunity to take the path which leads to greatness or stumble and walk down the path to failure. Except these crossroads occur more frequently then we realize. Unbeknown to us our futures are constantly shaping and constantly changing on a day to day basis.
Think of our lives not as single winding roads that curve up the countryside from the decisions that we have made. Instead think of our lives as city streets intertwined with one another. Each intersection is not a decision which we can make in our life but instead it is an interaction, one that has an impact and sets forth a motion of time in whatever direction you so choose. Think of the city as society, one happy and bustling in a joyous rhythm, the city didn’t become this way because a single street brought wealth and prosperity to the city. The city became this way because each street is clean and tidy and contributes to the wealth of the city. Society is much like this, a positive society doesn’t develop because some few wanted it this way, it is a joint effort that develops over time. Each tiny good deed done puts positivity into the society that trickles down like energy in an ecosystem. It is only the collectivity of these small day to day acts that creates a positive society.
These day to day acts are not crucial decisive moments where we jump into burning buildings or save someone who is drowning. The small day to day acts are the small things that we do without even realizing that they have an influence on our lives and the lives of others. We tend to forget when we are out in public that it only takes a small gesture to cheer us up or tear us down. But if we were to live our lives with good intentions and not go out of our way to hurt one another than positivity will flow into our society, which it will then be cycled through to one another. If we want to improve this world all we need to do is remain positive and we don’t necessarily need to help one another but as long as we are nice to one another, it will eventually move society in a positive direction and shape our futures.
Without realizing it our actions on a day to day basis shape our futures. Many of us don’t realize this but when a single person moves into a city, the city begins to adapt and change because of that one person. Supermarkets and chain stores focus in on certain types of people, there are so many taxis in the city because people realized its better not to own a car in the city. What is probably the most crucial determining factor of our futures is the interactions that we have with one another. Referencing my city streets terminology once again; even the darkest back corner alley is connected to the quietest back country road. When we interact with one another it once again sends positive energy out into this network of connections which binds us all. That positivity is eventually passed on from person to person and it usually doesn’t take long for it to find its way back to us. These connections to one another are why we should live our lives with good intentions.

My Pictures

I would like to explain a little bit about the pictures that i chose for my heterottopia. I was kind of distracted the the idea of a place trapped in time when i was learning about the heterottopia in the reading. The one place that kept coming to mind was my street. My town was created shortly after WWI and the construction would progress in three stages. It was primarily a low budget housing community for immigrants. One of the final stages to the construction was the completeion of my street Brown St. Unfrotunatley the great deppression came and they ran out of money to complete the street half way through it's construction. Now when you walk through the woods behind my house you can find tools, foundations, manholes for the sewers, and many other remnants of the construction. The reason why i chose this particular place for this project was because of two reasons. First it iis a place frozen in time. You can still find the tools that they would use to poor the cement and the piles of old bottles where they would ultimatley spend their lunch breaks drinkng. You can still almost imagine what would have been going on at the time if you were present during the construction. The second reason why i chose this place is because it is a place where two seperate times colide. There is the wilderness which almost places you in the past in early America or in prehistoric times. Then you find these foundations of houses and the tools, and it places you in a more modern time of an up and coming town. At times it is difficult to imagine when you are when walking through this woods because you also get the eiree feeling as though you are in the future and you are looking at the remnants of today's society after man has died off and nature has reclaimed it's land.

Why do people tend to suppress that which they can't express? What about Love? Its a very strong emotion and for some people very hard to express. But I would think its much more difficult to suppress.

I believe that it is fear which causes people to suppress their feelings. In today’s society we are expected to act in a certain form and manner. Often times in ways which may seem unnatural. There is a level of uncertainty which resides within today’s society about emotions which leaves a lot of us wondering “is what I’m feeling ‘normal’ by today’s standards.” Love is an especially confusing topic to many especially for younger people because of the lack of definition and the influence the media plays on how we view it. From watching T.V. love dramas all our lives many of us believe that love is something that is found very easily yet lost even easier. The term it’s self is thrown around so loosely that now it lacks the deeper meaning it once did. Today people whom do fall in love easily often fear the repercussions that may come from announcing their feelings. They may be afraid that they will be viewed as a stalker even though what they are doing may feel very natural to them. They may also fear the pain that will ensue from the rejection if the other person doesn’t feel the same.

How does space and place correlate to time?
I view place as being something that is certain something that can only be set in the present. where as space is exists in uncertainty which is the past and future. when we are walking down the street and we lift one foot off the sidewalk are we really certain that that sidewalk exists without reinvestigation to confirm it. When our foot goes down to connect with the side walk can we really be certain that the sidewalk really exists or its just a figment of our imaginations. it is only in that one instance when our foot is in contact with the pavement and we see it and feel it and know it is there when we can establish it as a place.
