Living Our Lives with Good Intentionts: the manifesto on how to improve the world

We as people, as a living being, contain a great power, the power to control our fates, elude our destinies, and fulfill our dreams. It is a common belief that our past present and futures all align in a linear for. It may be one that twists and winds but none the less it remains a line. Often people talk about the crossroads that they encounter in their life time, those rare defining moments when someone has the opportunity to take the path which leads to greatness or stumble and walk down the path to failure. Except these crossroads occur more frequently then we realize. Unbeknown to us our futures are constantly shaping and constantly changing on a day to day basis.
Think of our lives not as single winding roads that curve up the countryside from the decisions that we have made. Instead think of our lives as city streets intertwined with one another. Each intersection is not a decision which we can make in our life but instead it is an interaction, one that has an impact and sets forth a motion of time in whatever direction you so choose. Think of the city as society, one happy and bustling in a joyous rhythm, the city didn’t become this way because a single street brought wealth and prosperity to the city. The city became this way because each street is clean and tidy and contributes to the wealth of the city. Society is much like this, a positive society doesn’t develop because some few wanted it this way, it is a joint effort that develops over time. Each tiny good deed done puts positivity into the society that trickles down like energy in an ecosystem. It is only the collectivity of these small day to day acts that creates a positive society.
These day to day acts are not crucial decisive moments where we jump into burning buildings or save someone who is drowning. The small day to day acts are the small things that we do without even realizing that they have an influence on our lives and the lives of others. We tend to forget when we are out in public that it only takes a small gesture to cheer us up or tear us down. But if we were to live our lives with good intentions and not go out of our way to hurt one another than positivity will flow into our society, which it will then be cycled through to one another. If we want to improve this world all we need to do is remain positive and we don’t necessarily need to help one another but as long as we are nice to one another, it will eventually move society in a positive direction and shape our futures.
Without realizing it our actions on a day to day basis shape our futures. Many of us don’t realize this but when a single person moves into a city, the city begins to adapt and change because of that one person. Supermarkets and chain stores focus in on certain types of people, there are so many taxis in the city because people realized its better not to own a car in the city. What is probably the most crucial determining factor of our futures is the interactions that we have with one another. Referencing my city streets terminology once again; even the darkest back corner alley is connected to the quietest back country road. When we interact with one another it once again sends positive energy out into this network of connections which binds us all. That positivity is eventually passed on from person to person and it usually doesn’t take long for it to find its way back to us. These connections to one another are why we should live our lives with good intentions.
