My Pictures
I would like to explain a little bit about the pictures that i chose for my heterottopia. I was kind of distracted the the idea of a place trapped in time when i was learning about the heterottopia in the reading. The one place that kept coming to mind was my street. My town was created shortly after WWI and the construction would progress in three stages. It was primarily a low budget housing community for immigrants. One of the final stages to the construction was the completeion of my street Brown St. Unfrotunatley the great deppression came and they ran out of money to complete the street half way through it's construction. Now when you walk through the woods behind my house you can find tools, foundations, manholes for the sewers, and many other remnants of the construction. The reason why i chose this particular place for this project was because of two reasons. First it iis a place frozen in time. You can still find the tools that they would use to poor the cement and the piles of old bottles where they would ultimatley spend their lunch breaks drinkng. You can still almost imagine what would have been going on at the time if you were present during the construction. The second reason why i chose this place is because it is a place where two seperate times colide. There is the wilderness which almost places you in the past in early America or in prehistoric times. Then you find these foundations of houses and the tools, and it places you in a more modern time of an up and coming town. At times it is difficult to imagine when you are when walking through this woods because you also get the eiree feeling as though you are in the future and you are looking at the remnants of today's society after man has died off and nature has reclaimed it's land.
